Misa Edito:
For our 2 year anniversary, Germain took us on a trip to Hawaii. Coming from the cold days of Tōkyō... the view from the plane was more than a welcome site! Soon after we left the hotel, we got caught in a spring down-pour. So, what Waikiki is also famous for... it was off to the mall for some shopping! And as shopping goes hand in hand with eating... there were restaurants galore! We found a very interesting restaurant for the evening and ate mahi-mahi while watching colorful fish blow bubbles... and sting rays glide on by.
The beaches... what can I say... simply gorgeous! And it's spring, so rainbows were an everyday magic. We took some time to explore the city... taking in the sites: the Queen's statue, the State Capitol Building, Iolani Palace, and the gold encrusted King. Then it was off to Chinatown- every city we go to has one... so, it's interesting to compare them all. This one going over the top kitsch with the now abandoned Wo Fat building; while just down the canal having a Taoist Temple and a Buddhist Temple... but you have to look, or you'd miss them.
Ah, the night-life in Honolulu- from live Hawaiian music to frosty drinks beach-side to Prada and high-end shopping... just pick your poison. But we needed to pack it in a bit early... it was off to scuba dive the next day! Unfortunately, he was too busy worrying about me and I was too busy clutching the side of the boat and feeding the fish what I ate for breakfast- eewwww! So, although we made both dives... the camera didn't. The only picture we have is the tiny boat that bumped along the waves and managed to turn us varying shades of green. But once we were down there... WOW! Visibility was amazing and we even saw a sea turtle... and had reports of a shark from one of the other divers!
And what's a trip to Hawaii without a day of sunning on the beach... but we up-ed it a notch: rented a convertible and did a beach tour up the coast from Waikiki to the North Shore. Hard to say which beach was the most beautiful... though the ones up north were far less crowded. We stopped for a late lunch near the Surf Museum... and then it was top down back to Waikiki.
Honolulu is such a popular destination for Japanese vacationers that it seems JAL has a plane logo-ed in the Hawaiian theme. What a vacation! I'd recommend it to anyone!
