Germain Edito:
Taipei, “capital” of Taiwan, a Chinese province that is trying to get her independence has a strong flavor of Japan and China mixed together. It is most likely because of the different occupation of the past and the similar topography as Japan. I had my first contact with the locals on my way from the airport to the hotel where I talked with a lady to find my way; she was very willing to help even with her little English, most of the people I met where really considerate and helpful. The city is most modern and life more expensive than I thought before going there, it was really similar to Seoul and there is a contrast between the “old” (nothing really due to several battles which happened in the country) monument and the most technologic advanced one. I went to several temple with their loads of prayer chanting Sutras, temple with memorial for past dictator with wonderful garden and in the other hand went on the top of the world highest building, “Tower 101” over 500m (1,600feet) tall and trendy shopping center very close to our “Shibuya” in Japan. The Chinese New Year was nearing close and there were a lot of events before it, I went to an open market, in a very busy street with lots of stalls and a lot of them selling sweets!! |
