Germain Edito:
There is just so much to see and do in NYC- whatever you do... there will always be more. As the NBA recommends: “love it live,” we caught New York Knicks v. Indiana Pacers at Madison Square Garden. We saw Spike Lee chumming with Reggie Miller, Richard Gere with his boy, and a disappointing show by the Knicks... took a day to do some window shopping in SoHo... of course checked out the craziness that is Chinatown... relived almost every movie ever seen of NY at Grand Central Station... spent a day in Downtown- the financial district, NYSE (the stock exchange), the former World Trade Center... Germain endured the cold for a solo trip out to Lady Liberty... stuffed ourselves with dinner and cannolis in Little Italy... found peace and romance in Central Park; paid homage to Lennon at Strawberry Fields and the view to Yoko Ono’s... respectfully intruded upon the gothic piece that is St. Patrick’s Cathedral... only had time for the biggest museum in NYC: the Met (under construction and exhibit installation, so not as impressive as I would have liked for someone who has been to the Louvre countless times!)...and managed to catch some graffiti art?... advertising?... commercialization posed as art? from Brooklyn to Manhattan- Sony’s PSP given a cool, urban feel. The week came to a close and it was off to Philadelphia... and none too soon. Our final day in NYC was spent walking across the Williamsburg Bridge (from Brooklyn to Manhattan), as the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority) called its first day of strikes... Despite the biting cold (with no snow to show for it!), a transit strike, and spending the better part of the week sleeping on a tiny sofa in a friend’s seemingly unheated loft space... I love NY- I just hope it was enough to rub off a little on Germain ;) |
