Misa Edito:
October 30th started the Autumn Grand Festival at Meiji Jingu. Gigantic chrysanthemums, the representative flowers of the Imperial Family, lined the walk to the main shrine, together with displays of bonsai trees and other potted plants. We wondered along the gravel pathways to see a Bugaku performance. Bugaku is a form of ancient court music and dance composition derived from those of China and Korea; it is still performed these days at the Imperial Court, shrines and temples in Japan. And adding to the allure of periods past were little lords and ladies: 3, 5 & 7 year olds dressed up in formal kimono. These mark special years for each child, so those that have/will turn 3, 5 or 7 this year dress up and say a prayer for an especially good/lucky year. Just too cute for words :)
And what is a trip to Meiji Jingu without a wedding processional along the way…
