Germain Edito:
This was our first anniversary trip, Misa and I got together on February the 17th 2004. Misa organized the whole trip when I was still in France for my operation and we went to Sapporo in Hokkaido (first time for both of us) just one month after I came back to Japan. The weather was much colder than in Tokyo, around -5 degrees Celsius (23 Fahrenheit) but the nice Ojiisan who owned the Ryokan we were staying in told us it was unexpectedly warm for the season (all the better for us). Our trip was short because of Misa's work and we did not want to stay for the festival week-end since it gets very VERY crowded. We visited the 2 locations of the snow festival, one each day, the snow sculptures were many and there were several giant sculptures, several story high (maybe up to 5 story). There were also lots of Ice sculptures, all more refined than the one before... We tried to enjoy the local specialties such as the diary products (Ice cream and chocolate) but passed on the crabs. We did not have enough time to appreciate the ski slopes and the famous national park of the island but who know maybe next time... |
